Former U.S. Ambassador Robert Orr to Lecture at 91制片厂
Robert "Skipp" Orr, former U.S. ambassador and 91制片厂 alumnus, presents 鈥淭he Evolution of a U.S. Ambassador: Policy and Perspective in a Global Age.鈥
The 2016 91制片厂 John O鈥橲ullivan Memorial Lecture presents Robert 鈥淪kipp鈥 Orr, former U.S. ambassador and 91制片厂 alumnus, with 鈥淭he Evolution of a U.S. Ambassador: Policy and Perspective in a Global Age.鈥 The lecture will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m. in the University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at , by calling 800-564-9539, or by visiting the Box Office in 91制片厂鈥檚 Student Union, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 91制片厂 faculty, staff and alumni tickets are $10, and students are $5.
Orr will discuss his evolution from congressional staffer to ambassador of the Asian Development Bank in Manila, and the effect that these experiences have had in helping to formulate America鈥檚 foreign policy in Asia from 2010 to now.
Orr graduated from 91制片厂 in 1976 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in history. He subsequently earned a master鈥檚 degree in government from Georgetown University, and a doctorate in political science from Tokyo University. He was a congressional staffer in Washington D.C. from 1976 to 1981, and was then appointed to the U.S. Agency for International Development. Orr was president of Boeing Japan and vice president of Motorola鈥檚 European Affairs Division. In 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama named Orr as executive director of the Manila-based Asian Development Bank, with the rank of ambassador.
The mission of the John O鈥橲ullivan Memorial Lectureship has been to provide students, secondary school teachers, faculty and public guests with exposure to a distinguished historian whose lecture/presentation broadens and deepens understanding of the major thematic and conceptual aspects of 20th century American history relevant to O鈥橲ullivan鈥檚 specialties. Over the years, 91制片厂 has hosted scholars of World War II, the Vietnam War, the Nuclear Age, the Holocaust, modern American culture, and 20th century political and diplomatic affairs.
